What's so Special About the Bosch Mixer
The Bosch Universal Mixer and bread making go hand in hand. That is the common
consensus among many cooks. Unlike some other mixers, the Bosch Kitchen Machine is not
bogged or slowed down by the heavier and denser doughs.
The Bosch is definitely an appliance for serious cooks. While it can help those who wander
into the kitchen when the spirit moves them, the Bosch was designed for cooks who cook and
bake in their homes or in small bakeries or restaurants. It is designed to make life easier for the
day-to-day cook, especially in bread making.
One of the most important questions cooks ask is, how powerful is the mixer and how much
can the mixer handle? These are two very important questions for anyone working with dough
or batter on a regular basis. The Bosch Universal Plus’s 800 Watt motor gives the cook the
ability to prepare as much as 15 pounds of dough!
For a machine of this size, that is an incredible number. The amount, however, will vary
according to texture and density of the dough, as well as the types of flours and other ingredients.
But the Bosch is not just for mixing the dough. There’s a good reason that it is called the
Universal Mixer or the Universal Plus Mixer. The Bosch’s transmission operates two separate
drive shafts. One is used for lower speed mixing, such as for dough or batter. The other is for
whipping or blending.
It gives the cook the versatility to have one machine instead of two or three. No longer does
the cook have to walk away from the machine and set up another machine on the counter. The
Bosch MUM6N10UC puts everything in one area, on one machine.
Talking about the mixer, we cannot forget to mention the assortment of beaters available for
the machine. For the large mixer bowl, there is the dough hook—perhaps the most valuable of
the beaters as the Bosch is firstly a dough machine. Secondly, there are the whips which add
delicacy to this machine. The cook can use the same mixer for the heavy work of kneading
dough and then for the more delicate, the finer task of whipping cream or making meringue.
Third, for heavier and moister cookie or bar batters, come the cookie paddles, or if you prefer,
the wire batter whips.
The Bosch’s flexibility also allows it work much more than just breads, cookies, cakes. With
its multiple accessories, it becomes a jack-of-all-trades within the kitchen. Specially designed
attachments can easily turn the mixer or the blender into a juicer, into a slicer or shredder, into a
general food processor.
Add to this versatility multiple accessories that even add more to the Bosch Kitchen
Machine. The slicer/shredder comes with three separate bladed discs. One for shredding, coarse
or fine. One for slicing, also coarse or fine. And one for cutting French fries.
There are two separate food processor attachments. One fits with the mixer segment of the
machine for larger quantities of food processing; the other, the slicer/shredder column for smaller
quantities.
While earlier we mention that the meringue can be made using the larger 5-quart bowl, there
is an added attachment for the slicer/shredder column—a whisk assembly. This is for smaller
batches of meringue or whatever it is that needs the whisk.
Besides these, Bosch also provides attachments for nearly all other kind of cooking work.
It’s citrus juicer makes it easier for the cook to turn large quantities of lemon, orange, grapefruit
and other citrus fruits into juice.
There is also a meat grinder for grinding, mincing, and stuffing meats and other foods. There
is a flour sifter, a flour mill, a grater for hard cheeses and nuts, a fruit press, a cookie and pastry
press, a pasta maker, a flaker mill, and an assortment of other add-ons for the mixer.
The flexibility is increased by the Bosch’s unique design. The mixer’s drive, unlike so many
others, is located below the bowl. This style frees up the top of the bowl during the mixing
process for adding ingredients or for simply covering the bowl entirely to prevent the ingredients
from leaking out.
Really, the Bosch Kitchen Machine is really an all-in-one machine and can manage nearly
anything a cook can toss at it. Whether it’s making bread or preparing other foods, the Bosch
has the beaters, the dough hooks, the blades to handle the situation. It’s not called “the Universal
Mixer” for nothing.
